«The Consumer Guide» is an informative, educational independent online advisor for Latvian consumers. Its main aim is to increase the level of information and knowledge among consumers and strengthen civil society by ensuring consumers with easy access to useful information about their legal rights, as well as practical online assistance in order to enable consumers make an individual and competent choice when buying goods and services according to their needs.
In July, 2000 the Soros Foundation-Latvia accepted the application for the project's finansing. The site was launched for Latvian consumers on 31 August, 2000.
In total there are 15 sections in «The Consumer Guide» At the moment the following themes are available in Latvian:
From 1 August 2001 until 1 January 2002 the development of "The Consumer Guide" was being continued with the support of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The information in English was elaborated under ADICAE's "Europe's Growing" project in 2004.
The Consumer Guide was the first consumer resource site on Internet in Latvia. A new method was introduced in Latvia - informing and educating consumers via the Internet network.
