Consumer Protection Club of Jelgava was established on 2 July 1996 as a non-governmental consumer rights protection organisation.

The organisation was established with the main purpose to provide inhabinants of Jelgava and Jelgava District with information about consumer rights.

Members of the organisation are professionals of different spheres such as manufacturers, market specialists, pharmacists, specialists of food industry, lecturers of Latvian University of Agriculture.

Tekla Zabova is the Chair of Board of the Jelgava Club, and the Chairperson of the Board of Latvian National Association for Consumer Protection since its founding in March 1999.

The main objectives and tasks:

  • to protect the economic interests of consumers;
  • to organise seminars, consultations and other educational activities for consumers;
  • to publish the batched materials, conclusions in mass media;
  • to insure handling consumer claims and proposals;
  • to inform society about falsification of goods.

The Jelgava Club has a solid experience in consolidation of non-governmental organisations and establishment of coalitions.

The Consumer Protection Club of Jelgava has established an active co-operation with local press, and with the help of media, society is informed about the cases of consumer rights violation and methods of resolving the complaints.
